Medsėdis Plateliai is the homestead my husband and I created in Medsėdžiai, right next to Lake Plateliai in the heart of Samogitia.

When we discovered this spot in early June 2019, we felt in our hearts that this was the place for our homestead! We fell in love with the area at first sight… Although the land was overgrown with tall grass and shrubs and there were no buildings, the site possessed a special aura and a sense of perfect tranquility…

As we cleared the grounds and trimmed back the overgrown thickets, we revealed a massive, ancient linden tree that had long stood on the property. Neighbors told us that the original owners used to sit beneath this tree after their work was done—celebrating and singing…

Now, that old linden tree is the symbol, the crowning glory, and the pride of our homestead. And then there is that unique, fragrant scent of linden honey and the happy buzzing of bees!

While restoring the rural homestead, we strove to minimize our impact and preserve as much of the natural landscape as possible… We chose earthy, forest-inspired colors… Green is the dominant color of the homestead, shifting through different shades with the changing seasons… We protect the meadows—habitats for birds, small animals, and insects—as well as the native plants of the meadows and forest edges. In the homestead’s meadow grows the lesser butterfly-orchid—a member of the orchid family whose exquisite fragrance wafts through the air only after sunset…

We have put up numerous nesting boxes for our winged forest neighbors, allowing us to observe their lives from the mating season to the fledglings’ first flights… We have planted trees to provide shelter for the animals that visit the homestead grounds—roe deer, hares, badgers, and foxes… After all, as the saying goes, “nature is home to us all.”

We built a home for ourselves, too. We constructed the main house and the guest cottage ourselves—from the foundations to the finishing touches. Every single board was handled and painted by our own hands. The decorative details on the windows and doors, the beds, the tables, and the chest are all handcrafted by us. Every detail was thoughtfully designed and created with love.

The cottage accommodates 4 adults and 2 children. The ground floor features a living area with a kitchenette, a toilet, a fireplace, air conditioning, and a terrace with outdoor furniture. The second floor has two separate bedrooms. The rooms are equipped with air conditioning and mosquito nets. Each bedroom contains two single beds (which can be pushed together) and a fold-out bed for a child. There is a toilet, bidet, and shower. The hallway includes a small library and board games. Bed linen, towels, bathrobe,  slippers, toiletries, and firewood for the fireplace are included in the price. A sauna and hot tub are available for rent at an additional cost. Outdoors, there is a barbecue grill and outdoor furniture. Outdoor games include badminton, a ball, darts, and speedball.

We welcome guests seeking nature and tranquility. For reasons of comfort and safety, only guests listed in the booking are permitted on the property grounds. Visitors or relatives—even those arriving for a short time—are not allowed. We appreciate your understanding. IMPORTANT! The forest connection is stronger than the Wi-Fi connection. Relax and enjoy!
