Fauna

In the mosaic of forests and open spaces of Žemaitija National Park, with its gushing lakes and trickling streams, its hills and swampy pools, farmsteads and villages, you can find a wide variety of animals. There are around 2 500 species known and new ones are discovered every year. As many as 130 are protected species (Lithuanian Red Data Book, European Community importance).
